What Diamond Accents Could I Pair with My Ring?

It’s not just a beautiful center diamond that can make your ring stand out.  Surrounding accent diamonds can also make your ring unique as well as eye-catching.  Design your ring with different shapes or designs that suit your style to make it sparkle, shine, and pop.  Smaller diamonds that surround your larger center diamond will do just that.  There are several different accent options to consider when thinking about a ring that is just right for you.

About Diamond Accents

Typically, diamond accents are smaller in size, ranging from .01 to .20 carats.  The size of the accent diamonds will depend upon the setting you choose.  They are generally smaller so that they don’t detract from the size of the main diamond but only enhance it.  The four main types of accent diamond shapes used in most ring settings are round, trillion, marquis, or baguette.  Consider the size and shape of each accent to decide which type will match your ring setting best.

Accent Styles

Baguette: Baguette diamond accents are rectangular in shape.  Some are straight cut while others may be tapered to fit the setting.  They can be used as a side stone with one on each side to complement the diamond centerpiece or, because of their thin, long shape, can be placed around the entire length of the ring.  Because of their size and shape, they can easily complement a diamond without completely overpowering it.

Marquise: Marquise style accents are oval-shaped diamonds with a curved side that comes to a point at the top.  This style easily pairs with a princess cut diamond or round diamonds and can give an unexpected twist to a classic diamond setting.  They are more versatile and can be used in different patterns to create a unique ring style.

Trillion: Trillion diamonds are triangular-shaped diamonds that are cut specifically to sparkle.  They are commonly used as side stones in a three-stone setting.  Because of their sparkle, they are better paired with round, oval, or radiant diamonds so as not to overpower the setting and take the main focus off the center diamond

Round: Round diamond accents are classic and stunning.  They are versatile and can be used in almost any type of setting with any diamond cut.  They can be used as side stones or in channel or pave setting styles.  They will sparkle and shine just the perfect amount for every setting and make a great choice for an accent diamond.

Choose the Right Accent Diamond

To choose the right accent diamond, you must consider several factors.  First, consider the size of the accent diamond.  They shouldn’t be larger than 15% of the center stone. Next, make sure they match the setting.  Look for accent diamonds that are similar in size, shape, and clarity so they blend in.  Lastly, don’t be afraid to be unique.  Take a risk to create a ring that you are sure to love for years to come.
